The Wales National Velodrome is located within the Newport International Sports Village on the outskirts of Newport in South Wales. The Velodrome is home to Welsh Cycling and hosts national and International competitions as well as the London 2012 Olympic preparations for Team GB and Paralympic GB.
In 2007, 4Runner Sport Surfaces were employed by Newport Council to replace the existing sprung floor system to the area within the track oval as the existing system was considered far to slippery for sport use due to others installing a commercial flooring grade Linoleum as opposed to a Sport grade surface.
4Runner uplifted the 2000m2 slippery floor and removed it from site, prepared the base and installed their “Premier Plus” Sprung Floor undercarriage system. This was then covered with “DLW Linodur”, a 4mm thick Sport Linoleum that achieves the sport performance criteria for sport surfaces according to British Standards and German DIN standards. It is also an easily maintained surface needing only periodic cleaning and never needs sanding or sealing which greatly reduces its life cycle cost. The product is also very durable and will withstand roller-skates/ blades and stiletto heals for non-sport functions.
The surface was then line marked using special game line paint to enable the varied multi-sport usage the Centre offers within this impressive facility.
